• Family Law Practice Direction: Defaulters' List

    The purpose of the List is to ensure compliance with the relevant Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Family Law) Rules 2021 (Family Law Rules) and any case management orders and directions made by a Registrar in family law or child support proceedings, in accordance with the overarching purpose of family law practice and procedure. The Defaulters’ List will initially be piloted in the Sydney Registry of the Courts with a view to expansion if successful.

  • Response – Human Rights

    This form is used to respond to an application in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) alleging unlawful discrimination under the Australian Human Rights Commission Act 1986: see rule 28.05 of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) (General Federal Law) Rules 2025 (the Rules).

    The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia - Division 2 (the Court), is pleased to announce the commencement of a Specialist Indigenous List (SIL) operating from Lismore registry in NSW.  A welcome ceremony involving key local Indigenous legal support services was hosted by the Court in Lismore today to mark the commencement of the List and expansion of local support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who are involved in family law proceedings.

  • Media release: Indigenous families in the Newcastle region to benefit from specialist services dedicated to assisting families navigate the family law system

    The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 1 and Division 2) (the Courts) are committed to providing safe, fair, efficient and relevant access to justice for all Australians. As part of that commitment the Courts are pleased to announce the commencement of a Specialist Indigenous List operating from the Newcastle registry in NSW from 30 October 2023. The list has been named Wonai Nganka Kanan which means “children/child first” in the local Awabakal language.

  • Media release: New Brisbane court dog helps reduce stress during court proceedings

    13 October 2025 The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 1) and (Division 2) (‘the Courts’) are thrilled to welcome Court Dog ‘Leo’, a new facility dog, to the Brisbane registry, as part of the Courts’ National Court Dog Program. An official ‘swearing-in’ ceremony will be held on Monday 13 October 2025 at the Brisbane registry.
