On 10 May 2025, the Courts will automatically end legal practitioners’ access to family law files on the Commonwealth Courts Portal (CCP) 60 days after all applications on the file are finalised. For those files already finalised as at 10 May 2025, access will cease on 11 July 2025.
This change is being implemented as part of the Courts’ continuous efforts to strengthen and ensure security and functionality of our systems.
Legal practitioners are encouraged to ensure that they download copies of any documents on finalised files from CCP that they require well in advance of the expiration of the 60 day period.
Should you require access to documents on a finalised file after the 60 day period, such a request will be considered as a non-party request to inspect a court file under Rule 15.13(1)(d). If you seek permission to access a court file, the Court must consider the matters set out in r. 15.13(5) of the Rules and your request should address those matters. For further information on the process see: Request for file inspection
This change will not impact on the parties themselves, and parties to proceedings will continue to have ongoing access to their file through CCP.
