      It has been acknowledged that separation and divorce are one of the most stressful life events a person can experience. Regardless of the terms in which a relationship ended, there are a number of emotional, practical and legal matters that may need to be addressed, all of which contribute to heightened stress.
    • Family Law Practice Direction: Corporations Act proceedings

      This Practice Direction applies to proceedings in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia to which any of the following legislation applies: Corporations Act 2001; Australian Securities and Investments Commission Act 2001; or Corporations (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander) Act 2006.
    • Update to the profession: Filing and listing of family law proceedings in circuit locations commencing 2023

      From January 2023, parties wishing to commence family law proceedings in circuit locations will be able to choose their first return dates before a Judicial Registrar directly on the Commonwealth Courts Portal. A significant amount of work has been undertaken to ensure that parties living in rural and regional areas serviced by Circuit lists are able to have the same access to the Courts and benefit of the case management pathway as those living in larger cities.

      The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia is working closely with Tasmania Legal Aid (TLA) and the Law Society of Tasmania (LST) to undertake a pilot project in Tasmania to provide access to court proceedings via electronic means to parties from remote and regional areas in Tasmania.
