The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (the Court) deals with a wide range of matters, sharing jurisdiction with the Federal Court of Australia and, in some cases, state courts. The Court’s rules and procedures are simpler and less formal, and aim to reduce the cost and number of court appearances for clients.
Lighthouse expansion - Update to the Profession April 2023
The purpose of this update is to focus on the benefits of having a tailored case management approach, including the Evatt List. This update also provides answers to a number of frequently asked questions that the Courts have received. Media release: Courts continue to innovate to further increase access to justice for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples
On 11 June 2025, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Divisions 1 and 2) (‘the Courts’) will launch their 2025–2027 ‘Innovate’ Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) which reflects the Courts’ continuing commitment to providing access to justice for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples. The launch, to be held in Brisbane, will feature an address from Aunty Betty McGrady, a Gunggari elder from Southwest Queensland, as well as Deputy Chief Justice Robert McClelland AO.
Update to the profession No. 4: Commencement of the new Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia
On 1 September 2021, the Family Court of Australia (FCoA) and Federal Circuit Court of Australia (FCC) will be amalgamated to create the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA). Division 1 of the FCFCOA will deal only with family law matters, while Division 2 will deal with both family law and general federal law matters.
