      The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia has developed new rules of court for all proceedings in the Court with effect from 1 September 2021. Various new Practice Directions and Information Notices have been issued to accompany the new rules. This Practice Direction formally revokes a number of outdated or superseded Practice Directions and Information Notices issued by the Family Court of Australia or Federal Circuit Court of Australia prior to the commencement of the operation of the Court on 1 September 2021.

    • Media release: Indigenous families in the Lismore region have greatly benefited from specialised services helping families navigate the family law system

      In March last year, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (the Courts) launched a Specialist Indigenous List (SIL) operating from the Lismore registry in NSW. The SIL was designed to better meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander parties and children, and to adopt an appropriate degree of informality in relevant family law proceedings.

      The internationally respected Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) has selected Lighthouse as this year’s recipient of the Irwin Cantor Innovative Program Award. The award was presented at a ceremony held in Los Angeles, USA on 31 May 2023.
