The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) is pleased to welcome 6 new judicial appointments announced by the Attorney-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Honourable Michelle Rowland MP.
Family Law Practice Direction: Major Complex Financial Proceedings List
This Practice Direction establishes the pilot of a Major Complex Financial Proceedings List, which applies to any Initiating Application (Family Law) seeking financial or property orders pursuant to the Family Law Act 1975, that is a Major Complex Financial Proceedings List case (MCFP List Case) in the Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane registry or if appropriate to be managed electronically, a MCFP List Case in any other registry of the Court. The pilot of the MCFP List commenced on 1 October 2021.
Family Law Practice Direction: National Contravention List
This Practice Direction establishes a National Contravention List which applies to any Application – Contravention filed either pursuant to Part VII Division 13A or Part XIIIA of the Family Law Act 1975 in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia from 1 September 2021.
What has changed with the new Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia?
1 September 2021 marks the commencement of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (the Court). The Court has produced three informative videos that are available on the new website that explain the changes to the Court, what to expect when coming to court, and a video aimed at people who are considering to engage in, or are involved in, family law proceedings in the Court. The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCOA) welcomes the appointment of five new judges to the Court’s Parramatta and Sydney registries. These judicial appointments substantially increase the Court’s judicial resources and will greatly assist the Court to effectively manage its demanding caseload and provide access to justice in New South Wales and across Australia

Media Release: Appointments highlight career pathway through Courts to judicial office
On 8 September, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) (‘the Court’) celebrated 6 judicial appointments, made by the Attorney-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Honourable Michelle Rowland MP. Of those 6 appointments, 5 were sitting as Senior Judicial Registrars of the Court.
