  • Part 2: Overview of the Court

    About the Court The Federal Circuit Court of Australia (Federal Circuit Court) was established by the Federal Circuit Court of Australia Act 1999 (Cth) as an independent federal court under Chapter III of the Constitution. The Court is a federal court of record and a court of law and equity. The jurisdiction of the Federal Circuit Court is best described in terms of three main areas:

  • Court-based Family Dispute Resolution

    This fact sheet is for people who have been ordered to attend a Family Dispute Resolution (FDR) conference in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia.

  • Notice of child abuse, family violence or risk

    This is a mandatory form that must be filed with any Initiating Application, Response to Initiating Application or Application for Consent Orders seeking parenting orders. This form is not to be filed if the orders sought relate to property or financial matters only.

  • Family law senior judicial registrars, judicial registrars and deputy registrars: the roles explained

    Senior judicial registrars, judicial registrars and deputy registrars each undertake key roles in the operation of the family law jurisdiction of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (the Court). Although each of these roles existed in the former Family Court and Federal Circuit Court, they now play an enhanced role in the case management pathway of the new court.

  • Lighthouse expansion - Update to the profession August 2023

    The Courts continue to see a high uptake in parties completing the risk screen, with 50% of parties completing the risk screen within 48 hours of receiving the invitation to do so. This impressive response rate means that the Courts’ specialised Lighthouse team are able to provide early service information and support after the filing of a party’s Initiating Application or Response.
