      Lighthouse update from the Chief Justice - two years since the implementation of Lighthouse
    • What has changed with the new Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia?

      1 September 2021 marks the commencement of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (the Court). The Court has produced three informative videos that are available on the new website that explain the changes to the Court, what to expect when coming to court, and a video aimed at people who are considering to engage in, or are involved in, family law proceedings in the Court. The videos are available from the following links:

    • Family Violence Best Practice Principles

      This is the fifth edition of the Family Violence Best Practice Principles. The first edition was published in March 2009. These Family Violence Best Practice Principles are designed to provide practical guidance to court users, legal practitioners, litigants and service providers regarding the way in which matters involving issues of family violence are managed in the Courts. They also set out the Courts’ expectations as to the knowledge and understanding decision makers and practitioners appearing before the Courts should have regarding the complexities of family violence.       On 8 September, the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) (‘the Court’) celebrated 6 judicial appointments, made by the Attorney-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, the Honourable Michelle Rowland MP. Of those 6 appointments, 5 were sitting as Senior Judicial Registrars of the Court.
    • How do I apply for consent orders?

      What are consent orders If both parties have reached agreement about parenting, financial or property matters, you can ask the Court to make orders by consent to make your agreement legally binding. Consent orders can also be used to vary or discharge existing family law orders.  You should read the information about parenting and financial and property orders before you proceed.
