Vale Her Honour Judge Amanda Coulthard

It is with great sadness that I advise of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Her Honour Judge Amanda Coulthard.

Vale Judge Amanda Coulthard

Judge Coulthard was appointed to the Brisbane Registry of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2) on 5 August 2024 as a migration and general federal law Judge, and she was immediately a collegiate, warm and hardworking member of the Brisbane Registry.

Her Honour had obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Queensland and a Master of Laws from Bond University. She was admitted as a solicitor in Queensland in 1982, practising as Special Counsel in a national and boutique law firm specialising in workplace relations and employment law. Immediately prior to her appointment to the Court, Judge Coulthard was a member of the Queensland Bar and Burnett Lane Chambers, as well as being an Associate Professor at Bond University.

Judge Coulthard dedicated her legal career and expertise to public service and to the administration of justice, and the Court and the Australian public will always be immeasurably better for her Honour's contributions to it.

Our thoughts are with her Honour’s family and friends during this very sad and challenging time.

The Honourable Chief Justice Alstergren AO
